PRP & PRF with Microneedling

Growth factors from your own blood, applied with microneedling for texture and fine lines.
Change comes slowly, and not everyone responds.

What Is PRP
and PRF?

PRP (platelet rich plasma) and PRF (platelet rich fibrin) are concentrates made from a small sample of your own blood, rich in the growth factors your body uses to repair skin. We pair them with microneedling, applying PRP to the treated skin or placing PRF beneath it, for texture, fine lines and acne scars. They strengthen what you have and add no volume.

PRP vs PRF:
What Is the Difference?

PRP and PRF both come from your own blood and both carry growth factors; the difference is how they are spun and how fast they work. PRP is thinner and gets into freshly microneedled skin easily; PRF is a gel that releases its growth factors slowly and is a little less inflammatory, which is why Dr. Idriss prefers it beneath the skin of her face.

Who It’s For

Skin quality and texture, built up over months.

Ideal For

Uneven texture, fine lines, acne scars and skin that has lost some firmness, on the face and also the neck. Dr. Idriss also uses PRP or PRF with microneedling for smile lines instead of filler. Results are modest and build over months, and some people respond more than others. See the concerns we treat.

When to Wait

Because PRP and PRF are made from your blood, your doctor reviews your health history and medications first. If you want volume or a dramatic change, look elsewhere. PRP and PRF strengthen the skin and do not fill.

PRP or filler?

PRP and PRF strengthen the skin you have. Filler adds volume. Around the mouth Dr. Idriss prefers PRP or PRF with microneedling, because filler there can lengthen the area over time. Compare dermal fillers.

“PRP and PRF strengthen the skin you already have. Some people respond more than others, so I recommend trying three sessions and judging the difference for yourself.”

The Treatment

1

Your Blood,
Spun

A small blood sample is spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet rich plasma, or spun more slowly without an anticoagulant to make PRF, a soft gel.

2

Microneedling,
Then PRP

The skin is treated with fine needles, sometimes with radiofrequency heat, and the PRP is applied to the freshly treated skin, or PRF is placed beneath it, so your own growth factors work where the skin is repairing.

3

Judge It at
Five Months

Dr. Idriss’s approach is three treatments about a month apart, then a pause. Around five months in you can judge the difference, and if you respond, you decide how often to repeat it.

Beneath the Surface

How PRP and PRF with microneedling work, in four stepsTwo glass tubes above a cross section of facial skin whose surface is uneven, with a magnified circle on the treated skin. Step 1: a small amount of your own blood flows into both tubes. Step 2: the left tube spins quickly and its blood separates into a red layer below and a thin golden liquid above, the platelet rich plasma; the right tube spins more slowly, with no anticoagulant, and its golden layer sets as a soft gel, PRF. The golden liquid is drawn into a syringe. Step 3: a microneedling pen glides across the skin and leaves rows of tiny channels; then the golden PRP is dripped over the freshly treated skin and fills the channels. Step 4: in the magnified circle, growth factors spread from the channels as golden dots, the channels close and new rose coloured fibres form; the uneven surface softens a little. The change is subtle and gradual.

Step 1 of 4: Your own blood

It starts with you: a small sample of your own blood, drawn at your visit.

Step 2 of 4: Spun two ways

Spun in a centrifuge, your blood separates into platelet rich plasma, a thin liquid. Spun more slowly without an anticoagulant, it makes PRF, a soft gel that releases its growth factors slowly.

Step 3 of 4: Microneedling

Your skin is treated with fine needles, then PRP is applied to the open skin, or PRF placed beneath it, so your own growth factors work where the skin is repairing.

Step 4 of 4: A fertilizer

Growth factors act like a fertilizer for your own skin, supporting texture and firmness gradually. Results are subtle and build over a series of three treatments a month apart, and not everyone responds.

“I absolutely love combining micro needling with PRP, even PRF to a certain extent.”

In Our Patients’ Words

“

Dr. Idriss is the best! She is incredibly down-to-earth, realistic and honest. … I’ve also seen Dr. Fisher, who is equally amazing. She performed PRF using a different technique with a cannula. At first, I was apprehensive, but I was so glad I experienced the session with her. … She is also very sweet, gentle and attentive. …

Dr. Fisher is amazing! She answered all of my questions and never pushed me onto anything. She cares about her patients. Will definitely come to her again if I need an opinion on anything relating to hair or skin.
