Laser Hair Removal in NYC

Two lasers in one, blended for your skin and hair,
so what grows back is sparser and finer.

What Is
Splendor X?

Laser hair removal sends laser light into the pigment at the root of each hair, where it turns to heat and destroys the root while the skin around it is spared. Splendor X combines two lasers, an alexandrite (755 nm) and an Nd:YAG (1064 nm), blended for your hair and skin tone; the longer wavelength passes deeper beneath the melanin of darker skin.

Who It’s For

Hair with pigment in it. White and gray hair will not respond.

Ideal For

Dark hair on the face and body: upper lip, chin, jawline, cheeks, neck, underarms, bikini line, arms and legs. Chin hairs that arrive as estrogen declines are worth treating while they are still dark. With two wavelengths to blend, light, olive and darker skin can all be treated. When to Wait

A tan or self tanner must fade first. White or gray hair has no pigment for the laser to find, so it will not respond, and red or very blonde hair responds less and needs more treatments. PCOS is no reason to skip it, though you should plan on more treatments, over 18 to 24 months. Darker skin may need more treatments at a gentler setting.

Laser or IPL?

Splendor X is a true laser. Most home devices are IPL, a broad light that is less consistent for hair removal. Your doctor sets the laser blend for your skin, watches for rare increased growth and adjusts if needed. For pigment and redness rather than hair, see IPL.

The Treatment

1

Shave,
Don’t Wax

Shave the area before your visit and between sessions. Never wax or tweeze, because the laser needs the root in place. Stop exfoliating acids and retinoids 3 to 5 days before.

2

Laser Set
for You

With your eyes protected, the two wavelengths are blended for your skin and hair at the settings your doctor chooses. The pigment at each root absorbs the light and the heat disables it.

3

Less Hair,
Then Finer

Hair grows back less dense, then finer, session by session. Most people need 6 to 10 sessions about six weeks apart, with no sun after each one.

Beneath the Surface

How laser hair removal with Splendor X works, in four stepsA cross section of skin with four hair follicles, three with dark hair and one with gray hair, and a magnified circle on the root of one dark hair. Step 1: the dark pigment sits at the root of each hair; the gray hair has none. Step 2: the laser handpiece sends two blended wavelengths into the skin, drawn as a shorter yellow beam and a longer pink beam that reaches deeper. Step 3: the handpiece moves along the skin; each dark root absorbs the light and glows with heat, which disables it, while the gray hair does not respond. Step 4: the hairs grow back fewer and finer over a series of sessions.

Step 1 of 4: The pigment at the root

The laser finds the dark pigment at the root of each hair. Red or very blonde hair responds less, and white or gray hair, with no pigment, will not respond.

Step 2 of 4: Two lasers in one

Splendor X combines an alexandrite and an Nd:YAG laser. They are blended for your skin and hair; the longer wavelength passes deeper, beneath the melanin of darker skin.

Step 3 of 4: Heat disables the root

With your eyes protected, the pigment at each root absorbs the light and turns it to heat, which disables the root while the skin around it is spared.

Step 4 of 4: Less hair, then finer

Hair grows back less dense, then finer, over usually 6 to 10 sessions about six weeks apart. The result is a lasting reduction, not the removal of every hair.
