Morpheus8

Radiofrequency microneedling to firm skin and refine texture,
with depth and heat set for your skin at every session.

What Is
Morpheus8?

Morpheus8 is radiofrequency microneedling. Fine needles release heat beneath the surface, so the skin remodels its collagen and tightens over the following months. We use it on the jawline, lower face and neck, for texture, and on the abdomen and buttocks. It reaches up to 4 mm deep on the face, enough to reduce fat under the chin, so it is dosed with care.

Who It’s For

For skin that is loosening, crepey or uneven.

Ideal For

Skin that is starting to loosen and lose firmness on the jawline, lower face and neck, often with crepiness, fine lines or uneven texture; fullness under the chin when you want a more defined jawline; and loose skin on the abdomen or buttocks, for example after a pregnancy (see body contouring and cellulite). Most of our Morpheus8 treatments are on the jawline, then the face and neck. It can also be one part of a plan for acne scars. To strengthen the muscles of the body rather than firm the skin, see Accufit.

When to Wait

If you have melasma, radiofrequency heat can make it flare, so your doctor will usually choose plain microneedling instead. Darker skin tones can be treated with care, at settings chosen to avoid dark marks. And if your skin is crepey, deep settings that melt fat are off the table: Dr. Idriss does not melt fat in young faces or in skin prone to crepiness, which can come out crepier.

What it cannot do

Morpheus8 is not a facelift and not a silver bullet. It firms skin and refines texture. It does not replace lost volume, which responds to Sculptra and Radiesse or filler, and it does not lift heavier sagging the way Ultherapy can. Very loose skin may be a job for a surgeon. Compare Morpheus8, Ultherapy and SecretRF for skin tightening.

“There are no silver bullet devices and Morpheus is not a godsend. But Morpheus can also do a lot of good when done correctly by the right person.”

The Treatment

1

How Deep
to Go

Your doctor weighs how loose your skin is, its quality and thickness, any fullness you want reduced and your skin tone, then decides whether Morpheus8 is the right tool and how deep to work.

2

Needles
and Heat

Fine needles enter the skin to the depth your doctor sets and release radiofrequency heat beneath the surface. Expect pink, slightly bumpy skin for about four to five days. A gentle cleanser, a gentle moisturizer and daily sunscreen help it heal.

3

Firmer
by Degrees

Your skin remodels its collagen over the following months, and the full result takes about six months. Your doctor tells you whether you need more than one session, and favors consistency over intensity.

Beneath the Surface

How Morpheus8 firms the skin, in four stepsA cross section of skin: the surface, the dermis with its collagen fibres, and a layer of fat below, with a magnified circle on the needle tips. Step 1: the surface sags where the skin has loosened and the collagen fibres beneath it are slack. Step 2: a handpiece rests on the skin and a plate of fine needles reaches down to a set depth in the dermis, marked by a gold line above the fat. Step 3: the handpiece moves along the skin and at each spot radiofrequency heat glows at the needle tips, beneath the surface. Step 4: the handpiece lifts away, the heated spots become new collagen, the fibres straighten and the surface rises above a dotted line marking where it sat before.

Step 1 of 4: Loosening skin

Skin that has started to loosen and lose firmness on the jawline, lower face and neck, sometimes with fullness under the chin, is where Morpheus8 is used most.

Step 2 of 4: Fine needles, set depths

Fine needles enter the skin to the depth your doctor sets: up to 4 mm on the face, and deeper on the body.

Step 3 of 4: Heat beneath the surface

Radiofrequency heat is released at the needle tips, beneath the surface. Deeper settings can melt fat, which helps under the chin but not where fat should stay, so your doctor chooses depth and settings with care.

Step 4 of 4: Firmer over months

Your skin remodels its collagen and tightens over the following months, and the full result takes about six months.

“With Morpheus8, the depth and the heat have to suit your skin, its tone and its texture. So I start with what is safe. We can always work our way up.”
