Cosmetic Dermatology
for Men

Cosmetic dermatology for men is skin, hair and anti aging care planned around a man’s face and goals. That might mean softening lines without a frozen look, treating thinning hair, firming a softening jawline or repairing sun damage. At Idriss Dermatology on Bryant Park, board-certified dermatologists Dr. Shereene Idriss and Dr. Juliya Fisher offer men the same treatments as every patient, and aim for the same result, which is you on a good day.
How We Treat Men
A man’s plan follows the same principles as every patient’s.
No frozen look
Done well, Botox and filler are invisible. In Dr. Idriss’s words, Botox “should always look subtle and natural, enhancing the features of your face and not making you look Plastic Fantastic.”
Wait until lines stay
Dr. Idriss does not believe in preventative Botox. She starts it when lines are there at rest, “to minimize how deep they get over time,” so “you keep the essence of who you are.”
Find the cause before treating it
Thinning hair, flaking or redness can have more than one cause, so your doctor diagnoses first. For hair, as Dr. Idriss puts it, “you have to understand the root cause of your hair loss before you can treat it.”
Less often, done well
Your doctor lets movement fully return between Botox visits rather than repeating it on a fixed schedule: “this will allow your face to do better in the long run.”
Candid advice
If a treatment will not help you, your doctor will say so, before you spend anything. The same goes for every patient.
“With men, I aim for rested. Your expression stays intact, and when I am in doubt, I do less.”
What Can a Dermatologist
Do for Men?
Every treatment at Idriss Dermatology is offered to men. Botox, filler and PRF are what men come in for most, and the others answer concerns men often raise.
- Forehead lines, frown lines and crow’s feet. Botox softens lines made by movement while keeping your expression. It can also ease jaw clenching, off label and after your doctor checks your bone structure, and reduce sweating.
- A softening jawline or chin. Firmer Dermal Fillers build structure along the jaw and chin.
- Tired, hollow under eyes. PRF for Under Eyes, a gel made from your own blood, can help thin, hollow skin look firmer, with no filler.
- Thinning at the temples and crown. PRP for Hair Loss uses your own platelet rich plasma, as one part of a plan that can include minoxidil and finasteride, after a diagnosis.
- Early sagging under the chin and on the neck. Ultherapy lifts with focused ultrasound beneath the skin, with little or no downtime.
- Unwanted hair on the cheeks, neck or body. Laser Hair Removal with Splendor X treats dark hair; light, olive and darker skin can all be treated.
- Sun damage and rough texture. Fraxel Dual Laser, a fractional laser, treats sun damage, brown spots, rough texture and fine lines.
Not sure where to start? Your doctor builds the plan with you at your consultation.
What Men Come In For
Men bring Idriss Dermatology the same range of concerns as anyone. A few of them, and where your doctor starts (every concern has its own page in all the concerns we treat):
- Thinning hair. Men tend to lose hair along the temples and at the crown. Dr. Idriss’s advice for pattern hair loss is to “throw the kitchen sink at it,” then pare back: PRP for hair loss, minoxidil and finasteride.
- A softening jawline. Bone, fat and skin all change with age. See skin tightening and dermal fillers.
- Tired, hollow under eyes. Dark circles and hollows have more than one cause. Thin, hollow skin can look firmer with PRF for under eyes, made from your own blood.
- Oily skin and large pores. Oily skin is prone to clogged pores. No treatment shrinks a pore for good, but skin can look smoother and more even, with Fraxel or microneedling.
- Flaking around the brows and nose. Often seborrheic dermatitis, a recurring condition your doctor can diagnose and keep under control.
- Sun damage. In Dr. Idriss’s words, “sun damage is forever underneath the surface of your skin.” Fraxel and daily sunscreen help.
- Forehead lines and frown lines. Lines made by movement that start to stay at rest. Botox softens them while keeping your expression.
