Dermal Fillers

Small amounts of filler, placed where your face has lost structure.
The aim is definition, never a puffy face.

What Are
Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid gels placed along the cheekbones, jawline, chin, temples or lips to restore structure that time has taken away. Filler does not lift a face. Placed well, it creates the illusion of height and definition, so you look rested and like yourself. Your doctor chooses the gel for each area, and every one can be dissolved if ever needed.

Skinvive

Skinvive is a light hyaluronic acid placed superficially, just under the surface of the skin, for a smoother, tauter finish rather than volume. It is FDA approved to improve the smoothness of the cheeks, and its maker reports results lasting about six months. Dr. Idriss is frank about how it is marketed: “It is not hydrating your skin. All it is doing is being placed superficially.” Placed that way, it can give the skin a tautness filler cannot.

Who It’s For

Filler restores structure. It does not lift.

Ideal For

Structure lost with age: flattened cheeks, a softening jawline or chin, hollow temples, thinning lips and the backs of the hands. Hyaluronic acid fillers are FDA approved, product by product, for the cheeks, chin, jawline, temples, lips and under the eyes. Under the eyes, filler suits only some faces: if the bony rim beneath the eye sits low, or the skin is very thin, filler there can look like a bubble, and we will suggest supporting the cheek instead, or PRF for under eyes, made from your own blood. Compare all our injectables.

When to Wait

Dr. Idriss does not inject filler into the nose. Nor will we add filler that would not make you look better.

Filler, Botox or a biostimulator?

Where filler replaces structure, Botox relaxes the muscle that folds the skin. A lip that rolls inward when you smile is usually a job for Botox. When volume loss is broad and the skin is thinning, collagen building Sculptra and Radiesse may suit you better. Many plans combine them. Compare filler, Sculptra and fat transfer for volume loss.

The Treatment

1

Your Whole
Face First

Your doctor studies your bone structure and how your face moves, and treats the cause as well as the spot that bothers you. Hollow under eyes, for example, often look better when the sides of the face are supported.

2

The Right Gel,
Placed Precisely

Firmer gels build structure along the cheekbone, jaw and chin, and softer ones shape the lips. Less is often more, and we will not use a full syringe just because it is open.

3

Build Slowly,
Look Like You

Results show right away. Areas like the lips are built over several visits so the tissue can accommodate the volume, and hyaluronic acid can be dissolved if you ever want it gone.

Beneath the Surface

How dermal filler restores structure, in four stepsA cross section of skin over a cheekbone: the skin, the soft fat pad beneath it and the bone below, with a magnified circle on the treatment area. Step 1: with age the fat pad and the support beneath the skin thin, the surface sinks and a hollow forms with a shadow. Step 2: a slender needle places a small amount of soft hyaluronic acid gel, shown in pale blue, deep above the bone. Step 3: the gel restores support where it was lost; the contour fills back out and catches the light again, which reads as lift although nothing is lifted. Step 4: over months the body slowly breaks the gel down, shown as the gel's network coming apart, and the hollow gradually returns; hyaluronic acid filler can also be dissolved if needed.

Step 1 of 4: Support thins with age

Over the years the fat pads and the support beneath the skin thin out. The surface sinks a little, and hollows and shadows form.

Step 2 of 4: The right gel, placed precisely

Your doctor places a small amount of soft hyaluronic acid gel exactly where support was lost, at the depth that area needs.

Step 3 of 4: Structure, not a lift

The gel restores the support that was lost, and the contour catches the light again. Filler does not lift a face; restoring structure creates the illusion of lift.

Step 4 of 4: Gently broken down

Over months, and in some areas longer, your body slowly breaks the gel down. Hyaluronic acid filler can also be dissolved if it is ever needed.

Often paired with: Botox, Sculptra & Radiesse and Ultherapy.

“Filler should give you balance. I would sooner use a little less and see you again than send you out looking like someone else.”
